Discouraged, but pressing on.....

The announcement of our plans to adopt these two precious special needs children rendered surprising results for us. Many friends and family very near and dear to us were less than supportive. They could not understand WHY..... why would we want to burden ourselves.... why do we want more children.... why children with Down Syndrome? Some questioned whether or not we had thought this through and others just haven't spoken to us since they found out. We were shocked by their response and non-response. We respect their opinions, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. At the time when we need the most support, the support is lacking......

Perhaps God is simply showing us that He is our provider and He is our support. As much as we would like to have all of our loved ones on our side, deep down inside, we know that it is God who is our refuge and our strength (Psalm 46:1). So we press on and give grace to those who don't understand what we're doing or why we're doing it. We press on to bring our girls home and show them the love they so desperately need. We press on with complete faith and trust that God is in control.

  1. I admire you and your faith. I can't imagine what it might be like for backs to be turned by those you thought would lift you up. Keep looking to Him and following His call- you will be blessed beyond measure! I will be praying for your family and these sweet girls.
    In Him,

  2. I can really relate to your post. I was deeply hurt and surprised by the lack of support for us, too. But some who were so concerned about the adoption now adore Caleb. I'm praying for you.

  3. Tony and Leah, we're here and hearing so many stories of the fate of these orphans. Keep your focus on Him and on the fact that there will be two more children who are tucked in bed each night because of your selflessness. After seeing the stacks and stacks of files of children who do not have families today, I wish more people would open their families up to these children. This act of rescuing these orphans is truly Christlike and I am so proud of you both! We love you guys and are so excited for you and for your girls!! We are really hoping to snuggle with them tomorrow and in the coming days! Watch your email over the next few days....as long as we're allowed to photograph and as long as we have internet access, you should have a very special surprise coming!! Love~DJ and McKenna

  4. I'm just catching up on old blog posts, but my how I can relate! We were met with lots of criticism from my husband's family. We clung to the verse (forgive me because I can't remember where it is off the top of my head) that says the ways of God are foolishness to man.
